So the Olympics concluded the other day with the United States rightfully on top of the total medal count and the American public now collectively breathing a sigh of relief that we no longer have to pretend we care about track and field.

These Olympics started off with a bang, with the Chinese putting on a spectacular display at the opening ceremonies that would within days be overshadowed by the decision to have a little girl cut from the show in favor of a cuter little girl lip-singing the part of her crooked-toothed predecessor.

The closing of the 2008 Democratic National Convention leaves an awful taste in my mouth, a lingering sense of yet another opportunity squandered. With Barack Obama's selection of Joseph R. Biden Jr., the senior senator from Delaware, as his Vice-Presidential candidate, the Democratic Party has once again shown its willingness to sell out actual change for perceived change.

There are those who say life goes on. There are those that look upon the tragedy that happens everyday and remark, "the world keeps turning" and go about their lives. It is a mentality that allows one to accept the fact that the world is not always a fair place, and sometimes the most innocent of people are taken from us.

The drinking culture on Boston College's campus is nothing new - but the University issued a new set of alcohol and drug sanctions last week to try to kick off a proactive effort to quell the growing problem on campus.

The Beginning

A high school junior in Minneapolis steps onto the football field for the first time. "You're too small," they tell him. "You can't play football." He gives it a try anyway, and look at that: After his first season - as a junior - he gets an offer to play college ball. After his senior season, he gets himself 10 more offers: Stanford, UCLA, Boston College. Not bad for an undersized wide receiver who, only a few years earlier, was perfectly happy just watching Cris Carter and the Vikings.

Meanwhile, a basketball player in Binghamton, N.Y., is told he should give football a try.
